About Bubble People

Bubble People is a conversation about the full range of physical, mental and cognitive disabilities. We talk about the experience of being disabled, how we survive, and how the media and Hollywood represent us. We discuss film, TV, and media stories that depicts disability, for better or worse. And we rant about ableism.

The show is hosted by me, Justine Barron, a writer, investigative journalist, and media critic. I have been disabled by genetic disease, environmental exposures, and Covid. People have told me that I should "go live in a bubble" more times than they have offered me help and support. If that's an insult, I'm reclaiming it!

The media tends to portray immunocompromised people as paranoid-delusional, victims of Munchausens-by-proxy, or punchlines.

Our Founder

Bubble People was funded and founded by Alice Wong, who died on November 14, 2025, before she had a chance to witness it launch. Through her books, activism, and the Disability Visibility Project, Alice wanted to create a media landscape that told the real stories of disabled people. She was fearless and relentless in her goals and efforts.

Alice saw this project as a place to let disabled people share their stories, be creative and funny, and challenge the media stereotypes that oppress and stigmatize us. In 2024, Alice was awarded the MacArthur Genius Award.
